Picnic at the Water Lily Pond: a unique experience in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

Castel Trauttmansdorff

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano stretch out in the sun on a total surface of twelve hectares and bring together in a natural amphitheater an incredible variety of landscapes and vegetation, breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain scenery and the elegant Merano. “Picnìc al Laghetto delle Ninfee” is the new initiative organized by the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, which allows you to spend an original experience in the well-known Meran botanical garden. In the days of Friday 22 June, 13 July and 3 August 2018, in fact, by booking in advance your basket – containing dinner for two people – and starting at 18, you will have the opportunity to taste, under the palm trees of the Lake Water lilies, the delicacies of Markus Ebner, chef of the Schlossgarten Gardens restaurant. How come under the palm trees? Because Merano, thanks to its mild climate, boasts a spectacular vegetation, a mixture of Alpine and Mediterranean seductions. An author’s setting for a real déjeuner sur l’herbe, all to be enjoyed after visiting the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle where you can get to know the typical South Tyrolean landscapes and landscapes, set up along the course of an artificial stream. In addition to an illustration of one of the traditional agricultural crops, the area also hosts an extensive cultivated orchard with ancient varieties of apples and pears. The vineyard, on the other hand, includes a dozen ancient, indigenous vines in addition to the Gewürztraminer, Schiava and Lagrein varieties. And to continue the journey in beauty, you can leave for villages of South Tyrol rich in history and curiosities like Tires, Glorenza and, for the triumph of peaks, Fiè allo Sciliar.
