Camaiore

Camaiore rises in a large basin at the foot of the Apuan Alps. Today the village shows in the elegant buildings of its beautiful center the testimony of the events that make up its past: among these there are the beautiful Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta; the Church of San Lazzaro and the austere Badia di San Pietro. Palazzo Tori Massoni, home of the Archaeological Museum, is certainly worth a visit.

Camaiore rises in a large basin at the feet of the Apuan Alps. Founded in ancient times, the village owes its origins to the Romans who, after having founded Lucca, decided to build some fortifications at the feet of Mount Prana. In fact, it is no coincidence that its name derives from the ancient toponym Campus Major, with which the broad plain connecting Lucca to the port of Luni was identified.
Camaiore suffered innumerable barbarian invasions mainly led by Goths and Byzantines. The territory also passed under the dominion of the Lombards and during the Renaissance under that of the Sforza, until 1799, when the city fell into the hands of the Napoleonic troops who robbed many works of art.

Today Camaiore shows in the stately buildings of its beautiful center the proof of the events that constitute its past: among these there are the beautiful Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta; the Church of San Lazzaro and the austere Abbey of San Pietro. Definitely worth a visit is Palazzo Tori Massoni, home of the Archaeological Museum.

From the second post-war period Camaiore has become increasingly known thanks to its Lido.
Lido di Camaiore is located in a very quiet area that lies on the sea with a front of some km and is between Viareggio and Marina di Pietrasanta. It is a pleasant and elegant seaside resort overlooking the wide beach of Versilia, which since the beginning of the twentieth century has been able to conquer personalities such as Gabriele D’Annunzio, Eleonora Duse and Vittorio Emanuele III.
Lido di Camaiore is characterized by the presence of numerous villas immersed in the green, by very wide streets, by beautiful squares with artistic fountains and gardens near the sea, by a city center with all the public services indispensable for the community. Even for children there is a nice park created in a pine forest and during the summer visitors can enjoy every day at the amusement park in Lido di Camaiore the biggest attractions and the most fun games.
