Limone Piemonte is among the most important and snowy Italian ski resorts. Part of the Mountain Community of the Alpi del Mare, it is considered the queen of the Maritime Alps, in fact in the village 80 km of slopes extend over 3 areas: Limone-Sole, Tre Amis and Limonetto.
Limone Piemonte is located near the Colle di Tenda pass in the Maritime Alps and historically it was a place of transit on the road between Piedmont and the Riviera di Ponente and Provencal. An easy road route and a popular railway line make the village easily accessible from the localities of the Po Valley, Liguria and southern France. Born as a holiday resort and summer stay in the late nineteenth century, Limone was, already at the beginning of the twentieth century, among the first Italian places where winter sports spread.
In 1976 and 1987 the Italian Alpine Ski Championships were held in Limone. In 1980 and 1981 it hosted two giant slaloms valid for the Alpine Ski World Cup. Following on its slopes there were European Cup races and 3 editions of the "Parallelo di Natale". In December 2007, 2008 and 2010 it hosted a stage of the Snowboard World Cup.
The historic center of Limone is lively and welcoming and the surroundings are equipped for outdoor sports. The walks and itineraries in the Italian-French natural parks are the components of a peaceful and relaxing holiday, but there is no lack of opportunities for fun.
In the middle of the tourist season, a large pedestrian area allows you to easily travel along the main street and enter the suggestive alleys of the town, free from the passage and clutter of cars, accommodated in parking lots located in strategic points, on the edge of the town or near the accesses to the ski lifts.
The perimeter of the historic center of Limone actually constitutes a wall, from which a few points entered and exited. Of particular interest is the Porta Genova, to the east of the town, from which the path that led precisely to the "Genoese" began. The main square in front of the Town Hall has always been the tourist soul of Limone Piemonte.
