The municipality of Semproniano is rich in historical-architectural, artistic cultural, and natural and geological resources. Semproniano is developed around the remains of the Rocca Aldobrandesca, built around the mid-9th century but of which few ruins remain today. The town wall, on the other hand, has been preserved since over the centuries it has been largely incorporated into the houses, of which it forms the perimeter wall. The village has been preserved in its original structure, made up of stone houses, stairways, narrow winding alleys and many buildings dating from the 12th and 13th centuries.
In the highest part you will find the church of Santa Croce, which preserves a valuable wooden crucifix from the 12th-13th centuries and a Renaissance travertine stoup. While in the lower part of the village is the Romanesque Pieve dei SS. Vincenzo e Anastasio, home to some 16th-century paintings by the school of Gerolamo del Pacchia. In addition to the historic buildings and evocative scenery are the Mineralogical Museum, which holds a rich and valuable collection of the minerals found in the Amiata territory and beyond, and the Soste Della Memoria, permanent exhibits of rural material culture, dedicated to wine, oil and wood with displays of the objects and tools needed to process the natural to finished product.
In the municipality of Semproniano it is possible to taste typical local products. As we explore the area we encounter the various facilities that produce honey, raw milk cheese, Cinta Senese cold cuts, bread, pasta and cookies made from ancient grains, evo oil and wine. Semproniano is part of the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori Colli di Maremma, located in the southeastern part of the province of Grosseto, one of Italy's largest Roads, from the sea to the hills, to the slopes of Mount Amiata.
From the heart of Semproniano runs a road called "Fibbianello" that winds sinuously downhill until it reaches Terme di Saturnia (after about 9 kilometers). It runs alongside the Albegna River and passes through scenery of wild charm, unspoiled nature and rich expanses of olive trees, including the Olivone. It is a multi-millennial olive tree known in the past for its exceptional height. Even after lightning damage, which had reduced its size, the tree reached a height of 21 meters. Due to a fire, its height was greatly reduced, but fortunately it did not cause death, but produced new suckers from its roots. The Fibbianello area is recognized by the Ministry of the Environment as a "National Historic Rural Landscape."
Other natural areas in the municipality are Animanatura Wild Sanctuary, where native and exotic animals found in difficulty or resulting from trafficking and/or mistreatment of animals are managed. It is located along the Saturnia road in the provincial road number 155 of Fibbianello km 5+420. It is also home to the Centre for Threatened Birds of Prey (CERM), promoted by the Union of Amiata Grossetano Municipalities within the framework of the LIFE Natura "Biarmicus" project, which hosts red kites and Egyptian vultures for reintroduction projects in the wild. It is located near Rocchette di Fazio, in the locality of Posticce.
The municipality of Semproniano, in its program of land enhancement, is rediscovering and reorganizing routes aimed at encouraging awareness of all the natural treasures found in our land. To make usable by all trekking and nature lovers, there are trails in Rocchette di Fazio for the tourist who loves to experience life in contact with nature. Sentiero di Bellafreddi runs through the fountain restored by Leopold of Lorraine in the 1700s, continues along the so-called garden of Rocchettini until it reaches the Albegna River, where you can admire Sasso del Nibbio and Pozzo Diavolo. The Park Trail is a purely nature trail. Once you enter the trail, you cross part of the old Salt Road and enter a dirt road called the Park Trail until you reach the Caese, which enters the Albegna River in front of the Rigo Ditch Canyon. Continuing on, you enter Rocconi Park, where it is possible to hike inside with reservations. The last in chronological order is the Sentiero delle Posticce, a beautiful trail that reaches the olive groves of Fibbianello. On the way you pass through very picturesque places such as the Albegna Valley where you can admire the Red Kite.
