The Church of St. Francis è one of the historical jewels of Alatri, erected by the Franciscan order in the second half of the 13th century. The structure preserves the original facade with an archiacute portal and a rose window with radial columns, evidence of medieval architectural aesthetics.
Inside, però, the environment è was transformed during the seventeenth century, adopting a Baroque structure but retaining its historical and artistic importance. Among the works preserved, the church houses a valuable Deposition, the work of a 17th-century Neapolitan school, embellished with exquisite artistic workmanship.
One of the church’s most significant treasures is the relic of the cloak of St. Francis of Assisi, donated by the saint himself to the city in 1222. This relic makes the church an important place of worship and pilgrimage for devotees of the saint.
