Palazzo Pretorio or Palazzo del Vicario, in the village of Anghiari, Tuscany, was built in the XIV century. Today it is used as the municipal seat and it is included in the list of monumental buildings of the province. Placed at the centre of the first nucleus of Anghiari, it has an L shaped map; the façade is decorated with coats of arms of various vicars and podestà that succeeded in justice administration on behalf of the Florentine government; furthermore, it preserves traces of the original arched windows. Once seat of the court, it preserves on the ground floor some dungeons, a chapel and a fresco depicting Justice, work of the XV century probably made by Antonio di Anghiari, Piero della Francesca’s first local master. The dungeons on the ground floor appeared in the XIX century and inside it there is a courtyard with a well supplied by the underlying tank. On the right side you can see a chapel with fifteenth-century frescoes. On the first floor, on a lower area compared to the planking level, a wine cellar was recently discovered, evidence of Roman times. The walls of Sala del Consiglio are decorated with paintings donated by the fellow citizen painter Fausto Vagnetti.
