The Candlemas’ Church of Castroreale dates back to the end of the XIV century was probably the chapel of the castle of Frederick II of Aragon. Remodeled in successive eras is characterized by a hemispherical dome with Arabic influence which surmounts the apse and a portal built between the end of the ‘400 and early ‘500. Inside you can admire a great gallery of wood, dating back to ‘600, richly carved and indorata d’oro zecchino, that encloses the center a beautiful statue of the Madonna and the sides six painted tablets with stories of the Virgin, five of which dating back to the fourteenth century (the original tablets are located in the Parish Museum those exposed are copies). The statue of Saint John the Baptist of the neapolitan Giovan Battistam D’Auria 1568. The two February of every year is celebrated in this church the feast of Candlemas, with the blessing of the spark plugs.
