Located in the homonymous square, the Church of San Martino is one of the most elegant and characteristic of Erice. It seems to date back to the Gothic period around 1339, the date of the first document attesting to its presence.
The Latin cross church has three naves limited by 10 Tuscan columns, the old church, Gothic like almost all Erice churches, was demolished, rebuilt and enlarged several times, starting in 1682, thanks to the prebends and hereditary legacies of the rich aristocratic patricians.
