The Tonnara Museum of Stintino tells of shoals of fish which follow the currents of the Mediterranean, ciurme of sea that await the arrival, and a system of networks that it intercepts the passage. Describes the traditional method of tuna fishing, practiced in the Gulf of Asinara until the last century. Outlines the lives of men who have fished and worked the tuna with fatigue and tenacity. Encloses the identity of a whole country, Stintino, whose history is closely linked to that of the Tonnara Saline. Perpetual, today, the memory, of men and of the sea.
The user will be conducted in a multimedia journey, a path audiovisual and music of great suggestion. A series of videos with narrator in Italian and English subtitles, reconstruct the vicissitudes of the Tonnara Saline, history Stintino and of the Asinara Island. Historical images, full of fascination and rituals, slide in screens, alternating with testimonies intense and passionate. In exposure tools in use in the tonnara, the documentation of the same, diaries, old newspaper articles, clothing used during the mattanza, reproductions of boats and of the Tonnara. Part of the equipment, moreover, some selected works of Sardinian artists who painted the life of tonnara, from Stanis Dessy to Ausonio Tanda, by Nani Tedeschi to Angelo Maggi.
The Tonnara Museum of Stintino intends to preserve the memory and preserve the collective identity. But it is also meant to be an open space, in constant dialog with the community of reference and transmit to tourists passing in the north of Sardinia the cultural values of the territory.
