Chiesa San Nicola di Mira is the mother church of Trebisacce, a sacred building with Byzantine origins dating back to the year 1000. Over the centuries, this church has undergone several remodels, the most important of which dates back to the 16th century. Currently, the style of the building shows Baroque characterizations, as a result of the renovations carried out at the end of the 18th century.
It is in this sacred building that a work of art steeped in mystery is preserved: the 15th-century wooden Crucifix. The artifact was found by chance, during some restoration work, in an underground room of the church; some pious soul, will have protected it-along with other statues-preserved it in this room, and allowed that today, after several centuries, we can admire a sculpture that has become a symbol of the town and a reason for many visits by tourists and the curious.
